Time flies! 80th anniversary of the National Research Council of Canada time signal 

Today marks the 80th year that Canadians can tune in to the longest-running but shortest-duration broadcast program on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Radio One network. It was on November 5, 1939, that the first time signal from the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) was heard on air across the CBC network at exactly 13:00.

Ecommerce platform Shopify launched a new email marketing tool for sellers. Currently available to select merchants at no charge, Shopify Email will be available to all Shopify stores early next year, with low cost plans available.


RCMP launches review of its social media monitoring operation

The RCMP has launched an internal review to make sure it’s obeying the law in the way it monitors Canadians’ social media accounts, according to documents obtained by CBC News.

The national police force says it keeps an eye on social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, among others) in two ways: reactively, after a crime has been committed, and proactively, to detect and prevent crimes.


News Media Canada Calls for Applications for Local Journalism Initiative

News Media Canada is inviting media organizations to submit applications for the Local Journalism Initiative, which aims to provide funding to Canadian media organizations to hire reporters to cover civic institutions and issues in underserved communities across Canada.
