CBC Unblogged

I’m just catching up with some old stuff I’ve been meaning to post and “restumbled” onto a Globe & Mail article called “CBC union seeks removal of _negative_ blogs”:http://www.globetechnology.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20051007.gtnote07-2/BNStory/Technology/.
The article documents that “CBC’s”:http://www.cbc.ca desire to have negative posts to union member’s blogs removed. Sites like “Tod Maffin’s”:http://radio.blogware.com/ “CBC Unplugged”:cbcunplugged.com _could_ have removed the posts (although “Tod has said he will not in no uncertain terms”:http://cbcunplugged.blogware.com/blog/_archives/2005/10/5/1282219.html) but the words are out there in Google caches, blockquoted on other blogs, and archived in the “Wayback Machine”:http://www.archive.org/web/web.php no doubt.
In the end the request just makes the CBC look slightly less clueful, which is too bad as in general they’ve been on top of this Net thing for some time now.

Well, I think as the lockout proved, it’s CBC employees with the know-how, producing some of the most downloaded podcasts and copious blogs while they were out. As Tod Mifflin wrote, here’s hoping they take some of the learning from those ‘guerrilla’ productions back to the corp.

You said, “In the end the request just makes the CBC look slightly less clueful, which is too bad as in general they’ve been on top of this Net thing for some time now.”
    CORRECTION:
CMG has been on top of “this Net thing” for some time now.
CMG has facilitated the appearance that CBC has been on top of “this Net thing” for some time now.
CBC’s laughable Net presence while they LOCKED OUT CMG members proves CBC has NOT been and is not capable of being “on top of this Net thing”… period.

    Anon,
As a “user” of the CBC your correction is not a correction at all. “The CBC” is not management or union, it is a service I consume.
If union members made the CBC clueful then they should be proud of their contribution.
But as a consumer of the CBC through various channels what happens in the kitchen is none of my concern. I only care that what is served tastes great.
FYI, I spent about two minutes trying to figure out what company you were referring to when you said “CMG” – I’d never heard of them before and couldn’t believe they’d masterminded CBC’s strategy without me knowing about them!

Is there finally enough focus on CBC to do something after their refusal to broadcast the hockey game on radio the other day. This is not a sports issue but a revenue issue. Why do we continue to support a network always over budget and unaccountable? Is it possible to let the auditor general into this?
How do we move this sacred cow? Info thanks.
