Roundup: VancouverIAM.com, OneBigPlanet.com, MyMillionDollarMovie.com and Yahoo SearchScan

Thought I’d revive our Press Release Roundup series.  Here’s what showed up in my inbox that I found interesting this week:

VancouverIAM.com
New online platform and destination that promotes hyper-local citizen journalism – two of  my favourite things.  Focused on news and other happenings in Vancouver, the site offers resources for budding citizen journalists (including this great video on how to be a citizen video journalist – WHY can’t you embed their video?!?).  Also, there are placeholders for picking story assignments and creating ads.  Neat idea for a site – I’m a big fan of hyper-local news and search, especially in urban centres. Full Press Release

OneBigPlanet.com
A platform for social shopping – brings the worlds of ecommerce and social networking together.  (Frankly, I only have an inkling what this is about because they want you to register just to view their archived webcast.  Yeah, I get that they want to track leads, but at least let me watch your video so I can self-qualify.  Grrr.) Liz over on Successful Blog has more detail.  OneBigPlanet is a Montreal-based company.

MyMillionDollarMovie.com
I first heard about this project at Bridging Media in Vancouver.  Casey Walker has a dream – to create his first feature film.  To fund it, he’s selling individual frames of his movie for $10.  For your $10, you get a producer credit on the finished film.  Walker is a TV and commercial director in Toronto.

Yahoo! SearchScan
Yahoo! and McAfee have partnered to create a safer searching experience for users. SearchScan is designed to alert users before they click on risky websites that deliver spyware, adware and other nasty downloads.  Great idea – with more and more consumers online with varying degrees of internet experience plus scammers getting trickier, we can use all the help we can get.  Full Press Release.

    Hi,

We are filming new video – this one is frankly out of date right now and business is looking great so all hands are on deck for mission critical launches for new partnerships….the video in question was for our launch, which even now is outdated as we added a bunch of features and the portals we run look different; hope that helps..
