FACEBOOK AND GOOGLE dominate digital advertising, but Verizon wants to change that. Like many telcos, Verizon desperately wants to own more of the content that flows through its wired and wireless connections. It also has been building an online-advertising empire, from its acquisition of AOL in 2015 through its purchase of Yahoo, which closed earlier this year. But it has a long way to go to catch up with the big two, as revealed by the company’s quarterly earnings report Thursday.

Google is offering security experts a bounty to identify Android app flaws as the Alphabet unit seeks to wipe out bugs from its Google Play store.
Each flaw will score at least $1,000 under the program announced on Thursday to back up automated checks that have failed to block malware and other problems that security experts say infect the 8-year-old app store far more than Apple Inc’s rival App Store.
Canadian Dollar Falls As Retail Sales Drop Unexpectedly, Inflation Slows
The Canadian dollar dropped against its key counterparts in the European session on Friday, after data showed that the nation’s retail sales fell unexpectedly and consumer price inflation rose less than expected in September. Data from Statistics Canada showed that the inflation slowed to 0.2% on a seasonally adjusted monthly basis in September. Economists had expected the inflation to grow by 0.3%, following a 0.2% rise in August. Separate data from the same agency showed that Canadian retail sales declined?0.3% in August to USD48.9?billion in September. Economists were calling for an increase of 0.5%. This follows a 0.4% rise in July. Core retail sales fell 0.7% month-on-month, after a 0.2% gain in August. The figure has been expected to rise by 0.3%.
